ITEM # 0040 Warrior #1 – 27 (1982-1996)

Warrior was a British comic book anthology magazine that ran for 27 issues, between March 1982 and January 1985. It was edited and published by Dez Skinn through his company, Quality Communications. The magazine is known for showcasing early work from comic industry figures who would later become successful, such as Alan Moore, Alan Davis, David Lloyd, Steve Dillon, and Grant Morrison.

Here are some additional details about Warrior:

*   Publication Details The 52-page magazine had color covers but was otherwise in black and white. The first issue was priced at 50p.

*   Editorial StanceWarrior adopted a candid approach in its editorial and letters pages ("Dispatches"), openly addressing the magazine's production challenges. The letter section printed both positive and negative feedback, with Skinn often responding directly.

*   Summer Special A Summer Special was planned for 1982 as a separate edition with self-contained stories. Due to production issues, some of its content was merged into regular issues. For example, the cover of issue #4 had "Summer Special" on it.

*   Publication Frequency The magazine's release schedule fluctuated between monthly and bi-monthly in response to industry slowdowns during the winter.

*   Circulation In late 1983, Warrior had a print run of around 30,000 copies.

*   Warrior UniverseSkinn wanted the material in Warrior to share a fictional universe, with connections between the strips to be gradually developed, with the various heroes eventually forming a Justice League-style super-team tentatively called Challenger Force.

*   Creative and Legal ProblemsThe high level of creator control led to problems such as missed deadlines. Tensions arose as popular feature creators felt the division of spoils was unfair.

*   Awards and InfluenceWarrior was a critical success, winning 'Favourite Comic (UK)' at the Eagle Awards in 1984 and 1985. Unsold issues were also sold in America, drawing influential readers and contributing to the "British Invasion" of the American comic scene.

*   ContributorsBesides those mentioned above, Warrior also featured contributions from Brian Bolland, John Bolton, Mick Austin, Steve Moore, Garry Leach, and others. Letters to the magazine were sent in by established industry figures such as Steve MacManus, Marv Wolfman, and future comic creators like Kevin O'Neill and Warren Ellis..
