One For Sorrow

JAMIE McKELVIE IS BACK WITH HIS FIRST SOLO CREATOR-OWNED PROJECT IN OVER A DECADE! London, 1900. The capital hums with the energy of the new era, but something darker lurks beneath the surface. A monstrous figure stalks the city's criminal underworld at night, leaving a trail of bloody corpses in its wake. Rumors about the mysterious killer spread like wildfire. It's a demon. A phantom. An angel of vengeance. Nothing can kill it. Nothing can stop it. And once it picks a new target, well, he better have a coffin picked out, because he's already dead. The only clue that a baffled police force has to work with is the black and white feather left on each corpse, leading the press to dub the killer The Magpie. Is the Magpie killing at random, or is there a pattern that no one else can see? Three individuals, strangers to each other, might together have the answer. Madame Hendrikov, the Russian medium with an upper-class clientele desperate for the secrets of the dead. Bess Turner, the East End barmaid caught up in the schemes of an organized crime gang. And Ignatious Thorn, the world's most famous consulting detective, brought to ruin by horrific tragedy. The artistic mastermind behind THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, CAPTAIN CARTER, and CATWOMAN: ONE BAD DAY is back with a new comic unlike anything he's created before. ONE FOR SORROW is an intensely stylish, supernatural suspense thriller, full of kinetic action, bloody revenge, and ghostly mystery.

Kissyfur

The story is based on the animated television series Kissyfur, which aired in the mid-1980s as part of NBC’s Saturday morning cartoon lineup. Created by Phil Mendez, the show followed the adventures of a little bear cub named Kissyfur and his father Gus, who escape from the circus to start a new life in the swamp. There, they build a community with other animal characters while learning about friendship, trust, and family bonds.

The comic adaptation captures the same lighthearted and warm tone of the cartoon. It features Gus as a loving but clumsy father, and Kissyfur as the playful and brave cub, always ready for new adventures with his friends—including a rabbit, a piglet, and other cheerful swamp dwellers. The art style is colorful and playful, echoing the animated look of the series, making it appealing to children and nostalgic fans alike.

As with many cartoon-to-comic adaptations of the 1980s, this issue sought to extend the popularity of the TV show into print form, giving fans an additional way to connect with the characters they loved on Saturday mornings. Today, Kissyfur comics are remembered as part of the era when DC Comics experimented with bringing animated favorites into comic book form, standing alongside other adaptations of beloved cartoons.

Ka-Zar of the Savage Land

In the heart of Antarctica lies the Savage Land, a prehistoric paradise where dinosaurs still roam and primal tribes battle for survival. Here lives Ka-Zar, Kevin Plunder, the lord of this untamed world. Alongside his fierce companion, the saber-tooth tiger Zabu, and his wife Shanna the She-Devil, Ka-Zar stands as both protector and warrior.

This first issue plunges the reader into raw action and emotional conflict. Ka-Zar is torn between two lives: the wild, feral instincts that make him the savage king of the jungle, and the tender humanity that binds him to Shanna. While he fights off threats that endanger the fragile balance of the Savage Land, he also faces the deeper struggle of what it means to be a leader, a husband, and a man in a world where civilization feels like a distant dream.

Written by Mark Waid and illustrated with visceral energy by Andy Kubert, the story sets the tone for a brutal yet emotional adventure. The pages roar with primal battles, burning landscapes, and the eternal tension between passion and survival. This isn’t just a tale of jungle heroics—it’s about identity, loyalty, and the price of being caught between two worlds.

Imbokodo

ONE SHOT
Ndawo cover

In the land of the pyramid sun, a single step of the Badimu is a thousand Muntu lifetimes.

This is the land of Ndawo, home to the first Muntu. A thousand years after the great war between the Badimu — a war that brought darkness to the land and birthed a new kind of Muntu, one that wants, owns, and is never sated — Ndawo remains divided. Recently, numerous young girls have gone missing from their villages, a trail of carnage left in their wake.

In the empire of Monomotapa, Queen Nyameka commands the greatest warriors in all of Ndawo, the Imbokodo. Here, a nameless woman will fight to secure her place among the Imbokodo — to stand for the Queen, for the Empire, and for the freedom of all Muntu.

This tale adds to the greatly needed representation of Black heroes in the worlds of comics and fantasy: Afrofuturism at its finest, where myth, technology, and ancestral power collide. The land remembers; the warriors answer. The question is whether one woman’s courage can unmake the hunger that has taken root, and whether a united people can reclaim the sunlit promise of Ndawo.

Final Cut

ONE SHOT
Comic Cover
The beloved and award-winning author of BLACK HOLE's haunting and visually arresting story of an artist's obsessions, and the value and cost of pushing the boundaries of creativity. As a child, Brian and his friend Jimmy would make sci-fi films in their yards, convincing their friends to star as victims of grisly murders, smearing lipstick on the "bodies" to simulate blood. Now a talented artist and aspiring filmmaker, Brian, along with Jimmy, Jimmy's friend Tina, and Laurie—his reluctant muse—sets off to a remote cabin in the woods with an old 8 millimeter camera to make a true sci-fi horror movie, an homage to Brian's favorite movie: *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*. But as Brian's affections for Laurie go seemingly unreciprocated, Brian writes and draws himself into a fantasy where she is the girl of his dreams, his damsel in distress, and his savior wrapped into one. Rife with references to classic sci-fi and horror movies and filled with panels of stunning depictions of nature, film and the surreal, Burns blurs the line between Brian's dreams and reality, imagination and perception. A master of the form at his finest, *Final Cut* is an astonishing look at what it means to truly express oneself through art.
