The story follows three siblings — Feng-Li, her older brother, and sister — who are left to navigate life in California
after their parents return to Taiwan. As undocumented immigrants, they face challenges such as starting a new school,
learning a new language, and managing a household on their own.
The narrative is inspired by Tang's own experiences as a "parachute kid," a term used for children sent to live abroad
while their parents remain in their home country.
